I'm very sure all WJ's are recommeded by the factory to be running a 30w multi grade motor oil,be it dino or synthetic. Either a 10w/30 or a 0~5w/30 in colder climates. Read your owners manual. Your engine was not built with tolerences to run a 40w motor oil!
I've found that 1500 to 2K is the happy spot for the 4.7 and mileage. You "should" be able to get 16-17 around town in the 4.7 if stomping it from every light and on Summer-blend fuel. Fuel filter, plugs, air filter and what you're proposing is the right path. (The back passenger side plug is a real picnic.)

The '05 just had an overheating issue, less than 2 weeks ago, the the water pump, t-stat and fan clutch were replaced. No overheat issue since with the 2005.
I have a 2002 Grand Cherokee Limited with a 4.7 liter engine. 143k I have been using Royal Purple 5w-30 since 114k. I change the oil every 5k. Between oil changes I usually have to add two quarts of oil. I have no leaks. I am thinking of changing to 10w-40. I do tow a boat. Total weight with
Intermittent 4.7 oil pressure/coolant issues. Hey guys, i drive a 2000 WJ 4.7 (non HO) with about 170k miles. lately i've had a strange issue that i'm unsure how to pin point. The oil pressure has read very high, in the 65-70 range, where it is typically in the 45-50. this seemed to be resolved when i checked my oil level and found it low

I check the dipstick. If it's not enough, I pout 1/2 quart in, then check the dipstick again. When the oil level looks good.
